Building Leadership

Principal

Ms. Sarah Fontana

Welcome to Indian Hill Elementary School!

I am honored and excited to serve as the principal of Indian Hill Elementary School and to become part of the incredible Chiefs community.

I am entering my 24th year in education and my 19th year in Round Lake Area Schools.  Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of serving in a variety of roles that have deepened my commitment to students and learning.  I began my career in Round Lake as a high school English teacher, an instructional coach, and most recently serving with the district administrative team as the Director of Teaching & Learning working alongside educators to strengthen curriculum, instruction, and student achievement.

My educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in English and Secondary Education from Carroll University, a Master's Degree in Writing from DePaul University, and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University.  I am currently completing my Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction through Concordia University.

While I have loved every opportunity to serve students and staff at the district level, I have always been drawn to the energy and excitement of a school building.  I am looking forward to greeting students each day, seeing smiling faces in the hallways, and being part of the daily moments that make elementary school such a special place.

At Indian Hill, my goal is to help foster a positive culture where every child feels valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential.  I hope to create classrooms filled with curiosity, joy, and meaningful learning experiences while building strong partnerships with families, staff, and community members.  Together, we can ensure that Indian Hill is a place where everyone feels they belong and where we truly operate as one Chiefs family.

On a personal note, I am married to my amazing husband, and we have a wonderful son, who will be entering fourth grade this year.  We live nearby and enjoy boating and spending time on the water whenever we can.  I am also an avid reader and, like many parents, spend plenty of evenings driving my son to his various activities and cheering him.

I am truly looking forward to making a lasting impact on the lives of our students, just as I know they will make a lasting impact on mine.  It is a privilege to serve this community, and I look forward to getting to know each of you in the months and years ahead.

Building meaningful relationships is important to me.  I welcome conversations, questions, and ideas—no matter how big or small.  Together, we will make Indian Hill Elementary a place where every child can learn, grow, and thrive.
